On the
Job Training
The On the Job Training Program (OJT) is a vehicle for employers to train a paid
participant, while the participant is engaged in productive work at a
job that provides knowledge or skills essential to the full and
adequate performance of the job.
The
employer is provided reimbursement up to 50% of the wage rate of the
participant, for the extraordinary cost of providing the training and
additional supervision related to the training. The maximum number of
hours that will be reimbursed is 960.
The
employer agrees to compensate the participant in the same manner that
similarly positioned employees are compensated. The minimum hourly rate
for a participant is $11.16 per hour. The participant must be hired for
a permanent full time position defined as at least 30 hours per week
and must receive all benefits and fringes as provided to all other full
time employees.
The
training is limited in duration as appropriate to the occupation for
which the participant is being trained, taking into account the content
of the training and the prior work experience of the participant.
The
participant selected must be an eligible Workforce Investment Act (WIA)
applicant, the employer has the right to review potential employees
utilizing their own company procedures and ultimately, the company
selects the employee.
